What is Mystic Topaz?

Mystic Topaz is a gorgeous rainbow addition to any jewelry piece. But what is it exactly? And why does it have that rainbow, iridescent effect that we love? Mystic Topaz is actually a white topaz stone that has a thin layer of titanium coating that causes the wide variety of colors seen in Mystic Topaz jewelry. It is called an enhanced gemstone, and  the coating technique that creates this effect is called thin film deposition. 

How Do I Care for My Mystic Topaz Jewelry? 

Special care should be given to ensure your Mystic Topaz piece preserves its rainbow coating. Of course you can always gently use soap and water to clean the stone; however, jewelry specific cleaners that are non-abrasive and gentle would be best. Use only a very soft cloth, preferably a jewelry polishing cloth to wipe. You want to minimize any scratches or damage to the titanium coating, so it is best that you store your piece in a separate jewelry pouch and be extra careful when wearing it. We always recommend as a general rule of thumb with any jewelry piece to never wear it in a swimming pool, shower, when sleeping, or when working out. You can avoid extra bumps or harmful chemicals be taking your piece off during these times.
